Blooming beauty at Parents home, NE Colorado

It’s harvest time in Colorado but the flowers are still blooming! My parents house is abundant with color and beauty–and their dog, Gluwhein, is pretty darn cute too!

Books on Main, A quaint, lovely bookstore with imagination and literary adventures, Fort Morgan, Colorado

My mom invited me for an adventure and she hit the nail on the head with a picture perfect blend of literature and beverages in Fort Morgan, Colorado! I enjoyed browsing the shelves while my mother read her book, while sipping a hot chamomile tea from the shop’s beverage board.

The curator of the shop was also very helpful and I purchased several books, including a Hungarian recipe booklet, which I thought was super exciting. As evidence by some of my previous posts on this blog, I am trying to expand my cooking and baking capabilities and the varieties of food I make (no one wants to eating boring food or sandwhiches all the time!)

Another refreshing surprise was that I was also able to get/find purchase local postcards, which are becoming harder and harder to find but especailly local postcards of the area are even more “rare”. There are also other handmade local items featured for sale in the book store as well, which is a treasure trove for any shopper, books, goodies, postcards and a hot beverage, a shoppers/visitors delight!

A very cool feature of the Bookstore on Main is they also feature a local Author, whom I know, Rebecca Victor (www.rebeccavictorbooks.com). She is the author of several childrens books.

I love the adventure with my mom and I had such a good time today at the shop!

It’s Saucy to make Juice–canning tomatoes in jars

My grandmother’s skills are alive and well as she taught both my mother and myself to can/pickle/jar produce. Holly also joined in the canning and jarring of over 2 boxes of fresh tomatoes (from Honey Acres in Wiggins, Colorado).

While it’s not a difficult task, it does take time to make, from blending up the tomatoes to simmering it down in a giant pot (seasoned, of course) to steaming the jars and lids with sealers and more! It’s a task worth while though and the three of us had so much fun! We had an abundance and as seen, we had made many quarts of successful tomatoe juice for sauces and more!

Early Autumn, the last of summer, Colorado

Visiting family in Colorado is always such a joy. My parents yard/property is full of color and splendor, who wouldn’t want to sure it’s beauty and aesthetics?

Yes, it’s a crab apple tree that I am standing under and it’s full of crab-apples. If I knew how to make hard cider from the crap apples, I would do it!

Walnut encrusted fillets-an easy whole meal

My neighbor moved back to Egypt (she was an international student) and gave me some odds and ends from her kitchen (versus wasting perfectly good items!) What else to do but use up the items!

I put the partial bag of flour (about 4 cups worth? ) in a a re-usable plastic dish with snap on lid) and dumped in the partial small bottles of spices-including thyme, pepper, a mixed blend of “fish fry” spices, and some salt, and other items. I dolled out about 1 cup of the mix into a paper bag (small).

I put a half of stick of butter in the bottom of a deep skillet on low heat to melt.

The four fish filets were coated in an egg washed, shaken in the paper bag of coating, and placed in the butter and pan, the heat turned up to medium, once flipped coarse chopped walnuts were added and cooked with the fish until done. I added the green beans she gave me, with Rendered Molasses and candied almonds to the pan and all warmed up; served with mandarin oranges.

The flooding streets are a blessing, rain killing a drought, Wiggins, Colorado

My best friend in the whole world lives in Northeast Colorado; while his father was driving around, his dad snapped some videos of the streets flooding from the rainfall, on going a the moment. The area has been suffering from a severe shortage of rain, as had the whole state, for many years and a drought condition has occured.

Rain is such a blessing and all the water in the streets is wonderfu, who can’t help but want to share such wonderful news and blessings! Videos Courtey of C.Harris

A blustery blizzard in Wiggins, Colorado, a dream come true!

Wiggins, Colorado, blizzard

As you can hear and see in the short video I snapped/shot, the wind is really howling! It’s so cold, too and the icy winds bite at the skin. Yes, it’s blizzarding! Welcome to the cold and snowy Colorado plains! I also got my wish for Christmas, I witnessed a good snow fall and all was merry and white!

Thankfully, the blizzard did stop and I own plenty of warm wear to go out and play in the snow, a favorite past time of mine, while also getting to enjoy the warmt of the indoors, with hot cholate and games with family and friends.

We are playing Scattergories, Clobber, and card games, always a delight, no matter the weather!
