Driving to Freiburg was a simple, direct drive on the Highway but…
the adventure began as we drove home, the ‘back’ roads, meandering through small towns and villages along our way.
Sure, the drive home required more time to get to our final desitination…and yet, we thoroughly enjoyed the scenic route, laughing, joking, and eating italian ice-cream along the way. What is not to love than sharing fond memories, making new memories, and laughter with your sweetheart??
We made a pit-stop in  Lichtenau, a small town at enjoyed great ice cream at Eiscafe Paradiso Lichtenau (see photos below). A young boy was riding his bike around the plaza and visually became distracted, crashing into a feature item in the plaza, got up, danced about for a minute, and continued to ride his bicycle like nothing had occured, which made Thomas and I roar with laughter.
On the Sunday drive, we witnessed a German corn harvest (see the Combine in the video), lovely towns, funny kids, and the beautiful German country side on our way home.

Fusion Taco Salad

Ground beef browned on low heat

Add half of a chopped onion

Half a chopped onion, diced tomoatoe, and small bell pepper chopped

Add one can of drained red kidney beans with the chopped vegetables into the ground beef and onion mix all together in one pan

Simmer all together and stir for 5 to 7 minutes

My friend has sent me a taco seasoning sauce packet as part of my birthday gift and I added the seasoning packet to the pot of ingredients. It is possible for you to make your own taco salad seasoning on your own but considering I had a mix already on hand I used but my friend had given me

I chopped up a half a head of lettuce and divided it between two bowls

I laddeled to have two scoops of the taco salad mix on top of the cut lettuce and serve it garnished with Hatch Chiles from a can

Chicken Broth (stock) 1 whole choppped onion 1/2 Cup white rice 1 can of baby carrots 1/4 cup of chopped zuchinni 1 tsp Basil 1/2 tsp course ground salt Chicken meat pulled from baked chicken

The practicing of cooking is underway as part of my New Year’s resolution and daydreaming projects. Beginning since I have arrived in Germany, now that I have more than just myself to feed, creativity in the kitchen is fastly becoming the norm, which I absolutely love.

The soup contains:

Chicken Broth (stock)

1 whole choppped onion

1/2 Cup white rice

1 can of baby carrots

1/4 cup of chopped zuchinni

1 tsp Basil

1/2 tsp course ground salt

Chicken meat pulled from baked chicken

Baking is vastly becoming one of my favorite methods of cooking–it does not require constant attention, stirring, and often, it does not even require multiple pots, pans, bakeware–which is super nice and easy peasy when it comes to cleaning up. Who really wants to spend extra time doing prep, maintence cooking and clean–up when there are adventures to be had and life to be lived!!!

Super Easy, one dish meal

Baked Chicken Meal:

Small-Medium Chicken (rinsed)

1 Large Sweet Potatoe (use fork to prick holes in the skin)

1 medium Zuchinni (halved or quartered to fit in the dish)

1 Medium White or Purple Onion, Halved

Directions:

Put all the items into a baking dish or roasting pan, sprinkle salt and pepper (or your favorite seasoning mix) on top, cover with aluminium foil (or lid if using a roasting pan)

Put entire baking dish (roasting pan) into the oven at 325 degrees Farenheit, bake for 90 minutes (or until the chicken is thoroughly cooked thru to the bone) and Serve.

I used what produce is in season at the moment, making the meal super inexpensive. Also, by purchasing the whole chicken on sale, the meal came out very cheap.

This recipe can be easily altered for a larger group, simple double, triple or adjust to your group size and needs—

Such Steins may be made out of stoneware, pewter, porcelain, or even silver, wood or crystal glass; they may have open tops or hinged pewter lids with a thumb-lever. Steins usually come in sizes of a half litre or a full litre (or comparable historic sizes). Like decorative tankards, they are often decorated in a nostalgic manner, but with allusions to Germany or Bavaria. It is believed by some that the lid was implemented during the age of the Black Plague, to prevent diseased fleas from getting into the beer.

Okay,  a bit of time has lapsed (but what is a few hundred years between ‘old’ friends?) since the Margravine has passed away…but coffee with friends is still a rare, noble gift in her home. You read that correctly,  make no mistake…we enjoyed the royal treatment at the Margravine Sibylla Augusta residence, family portraits loving bestowing upon us as a string quartet hummed from the ball room...wait, what??

Well, we ‘know a guy’, whom invited Thomas and I for a special evening of coffee, music and so much more–make this rare, royal evening even possible (without breaking the law or any other mayhem), whom kindly served coffee and sweet delicacies to us…sharing time with friends whom just happen to be wonderful hosts in an incredible location.

Thomas and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening with our friends, talking about history, sharing the marvelous venues and art work–and though in the moment and enjoying it immensely, with the doors of the ball room open, one can feel the past come alive, ladies with large dresses dancing out on to the lawns, down the orangery, soft voices heard from above as the Margrave (her husband) transacting business and meetings above on the balcony….history living through time.

How did our host pull it off?? That is a secret I shall keep to Margravine Sibylla Augusta grave.

What an absolutely wonderful way to experience a small village then by drinking the local fair. The barkeep here at Motodrom is super friendly and very helpful. She obliging gave me some of the local history here in Kirschbaumwasen, Baden Wurtamburg, Germany.

Well worth seeing and spending the day here, great natural scenary with wonderful people, easily accessible by tram.

Tucked away in the Northwest section of Karlsruhe, Germany, this lovely cathedral is a hidden treasure…Thomas and I used our Schloss Card to locate this wonderful cathedral. We would have never known about it otherwise…. The Schloss Card (Baden Wurtämburg Province) has been absolutely amazing and has allowed us to gain access to places we would have never dreamed possible before–and all for the low cost of the Schloss Card.

It is a ‘newer’ addition to Karlsruhe, being built between 1889-1896.
